“Apur Sansar” (The World of Apu) is a Bengali film directed by Satyajit Ray. Satyajit Ray was a legendary film director from India. "Apur Sansar" was third film in the series of “Appu Triology” and was released in the year 1959. The film had renowned Bengali film actor Soumitra Chatterjee playing “Apu” and Sharmila Tagore, who was just a teenage girl back then playing his wife “Aparna” .

The film is based in Calcutta of British India in 1930s.The plot of this tender love story was picked from a Bengali novel, “Aparajito”  by novelist Bibhutibhushan Bandopadhyay. "Apur Sansar" focuses on the protagonist  “Appu”, who loses his beloved wife while giving birth to his child and is shattered. “Appu” blames his new born son for the loss of his wife and refuses to meet him. But later he returns and reunites with him.


"Apur Sansar" is critically acclaimed and has bagged many awards nationally and internationally. For all the cinema lovers this is a must watch!
