Balraj Sahni was born in Rawalpindi
(Now Pakistan) in the year 1913. Balraj was a legend in every sense of the word in the Hindi film industry.
He started his career with “Insaaf” in the year
1946. But, he was truly established as an ace actor in 1953 with “Do Bigha Zameen”
directed by Bimal roy.
“Do Bigha Zameen” was also recognized internationally
and won the international prize at the Cannes Film Festival.
Balraj Sahni possessed a subtle yet intense voice. His
simple personality and a sophisticated style of acting and untarnished image
gave him a Magnanimous personality.

Balraj Sahni was also an eminent writer and his work
includes his autobiography and work in Punjabi litrature. He also wrote
screenplay of Hindi film film “Baazi” in 1951.
Balraj Sahni was honoured with Padma Shri Award in 1969. In
the same year he was also recognized by Russia(then
U.S.S.R) for his book “ Mera rusi safarnama”.

Unfortunately he died at an early age of 59 years in 1973.
“Garm Hawa” was his last film which was also an official Indian entry for the
Oscars in 1974.
In his career Balraj Sahni worked in more than 80 projects.
He acted in super hits movies like “Kabuli wala”, waqt and Ghar Sansar.
He is survived by His
son Parikshit Sahni, who is also a noted actor and a prominent Television
Actor.
